Shuttles to Jerusalem and the Western Wall - What to Know

Reading time: about 3 minutes

Jerusalem is a destination almost every group wants to visit - families celebrating a bar or bat mitzvah at the Western Wall, senior groups, tourists and work teams. But driving to the Old City is not like an ordinary trip: vehicle access is limited, parking is scarce, and where you plan the drop-off and pick-up shapes the whole day.

Drop-off and pick-up points

Near the Old City and the Western Wall you can't always drive right up to the entrance, and large vehicles are even more restricted. Agree with the driver in advance where to drop off and where to pick up, and allow for a short walk - especially when the group includes older people, small children or people with limited mobility.

Timing and traffic

Bar and bat mitzvah ceremonies at the Western Wall usually take place in the morning, so departure from central Israel is early. Traffic into the city is heavy in the mornings and around holidays, so build in extra time rather than planning down to the minute. Remember too that entering the Western Wall plaza involves a security check, which adds time.

Shabbat and holidays

On Shabbat and holidays there are restrictions, and many shuttle companies do not operate. If your event or trip falls on such dates, coordinate well in advance.

What to settle in advance

A well-planned shuttle lets the group focus on what it came to Jerusalem to do - without hunting for parking or splitting the family across several cars.
