Shuttles for School and Kindergarten Trips - What to Check
When you transport children, the shuttle is not only a way to get to the destination - it is the part parents, teachers and kindergarten staff worry about most. Here is what to check and arrange before booking a shuttle for a school or kindergarten trip.
The driver and the vehicle
Make sure the driver is experienced with transporting children, and that the vehicle is in good condition, clean and the right size for the group, with a seat for every child. It's worth finding out in advance what is required in terms of licenses and insurance, and following the guidelines of the school or the local authority.
Chaperones and adult supervision
On a children's trip there must be enough adults accompanying the group, and that arrangement is set by the guidelines of the school or kindergarten. Arrange who the responsible adult on the vehicle is and who the contact person is for the driver.
Timing and stops
A trip with children needs stops for restrooms and food. Plan departure and return times that suit children, and add a margin along the way - children don't always keep to the schedule.
What to settle in advance
- An exact number of children and adults, and the right vehicle size
- The pick-up and drop-off point at the school or kindergarten
- Departure and return times, including stops
- A contact person on the vehicle and one at the school
- How the vehicle's waiting time is calculated over the day
A well-planned shuttle lets the staff focus on the children and the experience - not the logistics.
